1Q Fraud Protections
As part of our 1Q Security Infrastructure, we take a proactive approach to fraud detection.
Fraud detection covers two major areas: defense against bots and detecting multiple account
setup by the same individuals.
To accomplish this, we use the following approaches:
App-based: 1Q is mobile app-based meaning it is not very scriptable. Scripting would
require knowledge of key information that exists only in our app.
Phone number validation: We perform two levels of phone number validation during registration. A
third party validates that the provided phone number is associated with a
cellular handset (not voip). We also send a two-factor SMS code to
validate that the registrant receives the message at the provided number.
IP address validation: We verify that IP addresses used during registration are not blacklisted
and do not belong to proxy/anonymous servers.
Demographic validation Internal Algorithm. We detect unlikely demographic or demographic
change patterns like user changing gender 3+ times.
Answer patterns: We check for answering anomalies such as questions being answered too
quickly or patterns of the user always responding with the 1st response,
etc.
Third-party validation: We validate member identities with a third party.
Device checks: Multiple accounts are not allowed on one device.
Account checks: We don’t allow duplicate accounts.
Drivers license validation: Name, address, DOB and gender validated with DL bar code scan built
into our mobile app.
US voter file match: The entire 1Q panel is matched against US voter files to compare
address, voter status and political affiliation.
Validated email required for payment: Member payments are made via PayPal. Invalid flagged emails will not receive payment.
Website access permission with whitelisted IP countries: Access to all 1Q.com domains is strictly controlled through third-party IP access control.
Verify against third-party databases: Member demographics are routinely verified against third-party
databases.
